My elderly grandparent had been in Bunbury hospital for a week after suffering a stroke. I had been in to see them almost every day. My grandparent mentioned how much they missed having a shower. When I asked how long it had been since they had been given one, my grandparent told me they hadn’t had one since coming in. A whole week without a shower. When I asked the nursing staff if my grandparent could please have a shower tomorrow, we were told that there was no PCA on that ward to shower them and that showers weren’t a priority?! I was absolutely appalled. Is this really the norm now, that showering elderly patients isn’t a priority? I can understand every second day, but a week!? My grandparent hasn’t even had their bottom sheet changed. It is now up to the family to shower them if we want them showered. I feel this is disgusting care!
