"Location of pathology service"

About: Leongatha Memorial Hospital

(as a service user),

I attended Leongatha Pathology this morning for a blood test after fasting overnight. It was the first day of moving the pathology department from its custom built facility to what I feel is a very disjointed system.

I had a headache from fasting and the waiting area is now close to the cafe and I became quite nauseous from the smell of coffee and food. The waiting area is also further away from the collection rooms.

The staff were very helpful and caring and I feel the new system will be difficult for them as well as the patients. Of the many times I have used your Pathology service I have never seen any queue for the accounts department but it seems to me that the Pathology department is always in demand and I think it’s original purpose built area worked very well.

Dear re Pathology

Thank you for your feedback regarding the new location of our pathology department.

I am pleased that you felt the staff were helpful, the service only moved last week and the staff are just settling in. There is another space next to the new collection room that is available to sit in if required and is away from the cafe. We will work with Monash Pathology to make sure that people are directed to this option if required.

The previous space was not fully used and very large as it had once housed the laboratory that is now located elsewhere. This space is being used now for our People and Culture, Medical Workforce and Finance teams who were previously in very small areas. The growth of these teams, to support our nurses and doctors, meant that they needed more space to undertake their work.

The new location is also closer to the front door so should be easier for all to access.

Regards

Lou
