"Complaint"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Went to the ED for urgent care, the triage staff were kind and straightforward.

When taken through to speak to the Dr, I was unable to talk properly/articulate as I am forgetting words and parts of my memory. Due to this, I felt I was completely dismissed as a person, and the Dr seemingly dismissed the actual complaint I came into the department for as anxiety.

I have never felt so humiliated, degraded and embarrassed in a healthcare environment. The symptoms have not resolved, and I am left feeling completely isolated and helpless, unwilling to return to public care. Utterly shocked at this experience

Dear indusrh34

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

I am truly sorry to hear about what you went through, and I want to apologise on behalf of our service. Our team strives to provide compassionate and respectful care to every patient, and I regret that this was not reflected in your visit. While our Emergency Department staff are trained to respond appropriately in a wide range of situations, your feedback shows that we have more work to do. I have shared your concerns with senior staff so we can take steps to improve.

On a positive note, I am glad to hear that the triage staff treated you kindly. I will make sure they hear your appreciation, and I am certain it will mean a lot to them.

I would really appreciate the opportunity to investigate your concerns further, and also ensure that we can ensure you are linked with any appropriate supports for your ongoing symptoms. If you are willing, our Patient Experience Department would be very happy to hear from you and follow up on your situation with relevant clinical staff. You can reach them by email at rpbg.feedback@health.wa.gov.au or by phone at 08 9224 1637.

Kind Regards
