A bit shout out to Helen in Campbell ward, I brought my son in the hospital and he was diagnosed with 2 different infections which required hospitalised. The whole care team were friendly but Helen made it to the next level!
Helen was our carer on the 3rd night, she followed the procedure properly and paid attention to patient which she noticed my son always have abnormal cry when she injected him the antibiotics. She suspected there was something going wrong. She talked to another nurse and made decision that she would unwrapped my son’s feet to check the needle position. After unwrapping my son’s feet, his tiny little feet was all swollen, the needle was moved to my son’s tissue rather than his vein. If Helen wasn’t paying attention to the patient, the situation could get much worse and my son could be in much more pain.
Moreover, as a parent first time bringing a new born child to hospital, I was depressed and felt guilty that my son’s sickness might caused by my improper care; and also worried what would be the consequences or procedure. When I chatted to Helen, she patiently explained the next few steps to me and comforted me that she was doing the same way of care to her son and that would not be a problem. The chat was a load off my mind.
Plus after doing the usual check for my son, Helen always asked me if I need anything which made me felt very welcomed.
Thank you Helen, the hospitalised experience was tough but your attention to detail and kindness made us physically and mentally felt much better.
