"Medical ward A"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department Bunbury Hospital / Medical Ward

(as a relative),

My story was a little while ago, but I wanted to share it anyway.

My mum was brought into hospital by ambulance. We were in the emergency department, and I was explaining to the team that I couldn’t take her home. Her care needs were too high for me to handle. They were pushing for me to take her home and have other family members stay, but it felt impossible and heartbreaking.

My mum finally got admitted to medical A, and she was so looked after. I had a lot of guilt because she was going into a nursing home, but everyone on the ward made me feel looked after and supported, especially the social worker and welfare officer.

The social worker and welfare officer worked so well together. They knew each other’s strengths and referred to one another for who could provide a better answer. They supported me with what facilities my mum could go to close to home. The social worker knew I needed a break from my mum’s care because I was starting to become emotional about the fact that she didn’t know who I was anymore. She didn’t make me feel guilty and provided me with support groups to attend.

My mum was transferred to Manjimup Hospital while awaiting care, which made me nervous as she was far away. Although they were just as lovely. They provided me with the time to care for myself.

I just want to extend my gratitude to the whole ward. I believe they are doing amazing work for every patient.
