"ALO Transport"

About: Broome Health Campus

(as the patient),

Why is Broome Hospital transport called Aboriginal Liaison Officer? Does this mean if you are not a first nation's person you cannot access despite NDIS and disabled? Is this reverse racism? I feel it should be called Broome Hospital Transport.

Dear authenticfk76,

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your concern and appreciate the opportunity to clarify the role of the Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) at Broome Health Campus.

The ALO is not a dedicated transport service, nor is the title intended to exclude anyone. The position exists to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients in navigating the healthcare system, including cultural advocacy, communication, and coordination of care. Transport may be provided as part of broader support duties, but this is not the primary function of the role.

Importantly, Broome Health Campus does not operate a general transport service for patients. However, we work with all clients, regardless of background, to explore available transport options when needed. This includes liaising with external services that do offer dedicated transport support. On occasion, and where appropriate, transport may be arranged for any patient, based on individual circumstances.

We are committed to equity, inclusion, and respectful care for all members of our community. The naming of the ALO role reflects its purpose and cultural significance, not a restriction of services. We believe in working together as a community to ensure responsible use of resources and the best outcomes for all.

If you would like to discuss your experience further or explore support options, we welcome you to contact me directly please on 9194-2854.

Best regards,

James
