"Hospital visit"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

It was an unbelievable six-hour wait just to see the eye doctor. I thought the triage system was also really strange — lots of people were seen before us. Based on my experience, for an international tourist visiting Sydney, I think that this gives the worst possible impression of our country.

Dear waterdw47,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. We are very sorry to hear about the long wait you, and the frustration caused by the triage process.

Our triage system is designed to prioritise patients based on clinical urgency rather than the order of arrival, which can sometimes be confusing or seem unfair, especially during busy periods. That said, we acknowledge that a six-hour wait is far from ideal, and we are actively working to reduce these delays and improve communication with patients about wait times and triage procedures.

We value your feedback as it helps us identify areas where we can do better. If you would like to provide further information about your experience, please email SESLHD-SSEHExecutiveServices@health.nsw.gov.au.

Regards,

Barbara Daly

Acting Director of Nursing and Support Services
