I was fortunate enough to partake in the MGP program at Karratha Health Campus for my second pregnancy. We were located in Newman with my first pregnancy where we were required to leave our home at 35 weeks to Perth or Hedland for the birth as the hospital was not setup for births. Having the continuity of care this pregnancy through the MGP program in Karratha has made such a difference to my pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience.
My midwife Lea was so supportive, I felt guided and well informed this pregnancy. Having a provider that knows you, your past pregnancy’s and your wishes for a current pregnancy made a world of different to my experience. A woman’s birth space is a sacred space and I am so grateful to have shared that space with Lea - she empowered me during the birth and I felt respected and safe in her hands.
I would also like to add that the birth suites are set up so beautifully by the midwives - from fairy lights to affirmations to LED candles.
I would love to see the MGP program expand to other parts of the Pilbara where it is not currently accessible.
