"Day procedure"

About: Albany Health Campus / Day Procedure Unit Albany Health Campus / Orderlies

(as the patient),

I had a semi urgent day procedure under general anaesthetic. From the very start at admission all the way through to recovery, was respectful, caring, attention to every detail and aimed at making the experience as comfortable, protecting my dignity, and bearable as humanly possible.

The only negative was experienced in the prep room, a couple of young orderlies were in the room where I couldn't see them due to my curtain, I assume they were waiting for their next job, however, they were giggling, laughing, joking and conversing about other staff (not in a hugely negative way - (but borderline), and their personal relationships, and it just seemed inconsiderate, and unprofessional to be behaving this way in an otherwise, peaceful room full of nervous patients about to undergo invasive surgeries. It felt as though they were oblivious to our presence and ability to hear them. Other than this, I could not fault my experience at the Albany Health Campus WA.

We’re truly pleased to hear that, overall, your journey—from admission through to recovery—was marked by respectful, caring, and attentive service. Protecting patient dignity and ensuring comfort are core values we strive to uphold, and it’s heartening to know that these were reflected in your care.

We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the behaviour of staff in the prep room. We understand how important a calm and professional environment is, especially in moments leading up to surgery. Your observations have been noted and will be shared with the relevant teams to ensure we maintain the highest standards of professionalism and sensitivity in all patient areas.
