I came to the ER at Karratha Hospital with severe pain and difficulty breathing and moving my neck and arm due to an intense muscle spasm. From the moment I arrived, I was met with warmth and understanding, something I’ve rarely experienced when visiting hospitals in the past. The ladies at the front desk were genuinely kind and sympathetic which was a refreshing change from the detached, monotonous personas i have come to expect with most hospital admissions. Their empathy alone set the tone for what turned out to be my most pleasant hospital experience to this day.
I was seen promptly, with no long hours of waiting, no feeling like just another number in the queue. The triage staff were compassionate, attentive, and professional. I want to especially thank Courtney, who showed such empathy and care that she managed to calm me despite my worsening pain. She made a world of difference.
When my condition deteriorated and I was admitted to a ward, I was cared for by Alyce, whose kindness and gentle manner were nothing short of remarkable. She was thoughtful, patient, and genuinely invested in my wellbeing, again, far from the cold efficiency that, in my experience, so often defines the hospital experience.
Then there was Dr. Paula. I’ve seen more doctors than I can count over the past three years because of my injury, but she stands out amongst the rest. Dr. Paula showed a rare combination of professionalism, empathy, and deep compassion. She took the time to understand my medical history, to really listen, and to tailor her care to my situation. She made me feel seen and heard in a way that I honestly didn’t think was possible in a busy hospital. The dedication she showed to me, while attending to countless other patients, is the reason I’m writing this feedback.
Lastly, to Rochelle in the ward. Thank you for your attentiveness and care. Your insistence on ensuring my comfort, even offering extra pillows I didn’t end up needing, showed genuine concern and humanity. It meant more than you might realize.
To all of you who cared for me last week, thank you from the bottom of my heart. The kindness, compassion, and humanity you showed go far beyond what anyone expects from a hospital visit. You didn’t just treat a patient you treated a person. The way you carry yourselves, connect with those in your care, and perform your duties is truly first-class and should serve as a model for what every hospital should strive to achieve.
Warmest regards
