"Midwives/Antenatal care"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Maternity Ward

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth in Kalgoorlie Hospital and would like to thank the following midwives who were absolutely amazing during my antenatal care, delivery and 4 night stay in the ward. I hope they receive some recognition as their patient care is such an asset to Kalgoorlie hospital and without them my journey, especially mentally may not have been as good.

Les in the antenatal clinic, every visit she was thorough, efficient, caring, honest and provided powerful and effective knowledge. Open to all my questions as a first time mum and tooled us up before our baby arrived.  Georgia, nightshift midwife on the ward   - A godsend! She prioritised my health, offered to take my baby for a couple hours each night so I could rest. Always checked in (sometimes before or after her shifts) and reassured me to trust my instincts. Never appeared too busy to have a postpartum chat with me and I genuinely felt like she cared about my baby, my partner and I.

Seeing her familiar face every night soothed my anxiety more than she may have known and her help really got me through the overnight anxiety.

Mel - day shift midwife on the ward - Absolute hero! She cared for me really well and was not shy about enforcing me to rest, however I have to thank her for prioritising my babies health as he was born under weight and needed to be beefed up for discharge. She taught me how to breastfeed, kept me on the clock with feeds and empowered me to make the best decisions to feed my son.

Very attentive, patient and empowering. I note she mentioned she could sleep easier knowing my baby was eating well/gaining weight. Again genuinely felt like she cared.

Nerida - the midwife who delivered my baby, absolutely amazing! Caring, attentive to my needs but knew when to leave me alone. Calming presence and really empowering/reassuring that all medical decisions for my baby and I were mine and that I shouldn’t feel pressured into anything. A calm familiar face who also helped my anxiety and showed care for my baby, partner and I.

All the midwives in the hospital were really lovely, we were lucky to have been cared for by these specific amazing women and I will never forget their care during one of the most vulnerable times of my life. They all deserve medals and probably a pay rise.

I also need to mention, the food was really great during my stay.

Thank you
