"Smoking at the hospital"

About: St George Hospital

(as the patient),

I feel you need to do something about the amount of people who smoke on hospital grounds. People should not have to be exposed to second hand smoke on a daily basis - especially when there is children, pregnant women and sick people. There are many signs but from what I've seen, no enforcement what so ever.

Dear Carabiner87,

Thank you for bringing to our attention the issue of people smoking on the hospital grounds of St George Public Hospital.

I want to sincerely apologise for the discomfort this situation caused you.

Maintaining a safe and healthy environment is a priority for us. The Security Officers have been asked to increase their patrols to enforce the NSW Health no smoking policy. Addressing smoking on our hospital grounds is a persistent challenge, and we continuously explore additional measures and provide alternative therapies to support patients who rely on smoking as a coping mechanism during their hospital stay.

Please be assured that we take this matter seriously and are committed to finding effective solutions to mitigate this issue.

Thank you once again for sharing your concerns. We appreciate you’re understanding and patience as we strive to enhance a safe environment for our patients and visitors.

Sincerely,

Vicki Weeden

General Manager
