My experience arose out of a bucket of ice-cream slipping through my fingers and sliced into my leg when I tried to break its fall by extending my foot underneath.
I immediately stopped the bleeding with a series of band-aids. This happened late evening not long before I went to bed.
Next morning I was committed to drive to Marysville for a week's camping before returning to our home on Phillip Island.
Whilst I changed the 'dressing' on my leg during our week away, I left it until we got home to seek professional care from the new Cowes Community Hospital. The care and attention I received from the medical staff at this new facility was exemplary and left nothing to be desired.
My situation was followed up by staff at Wonthaggi Hospital who arranged for my subsequent IV antibiotic infusions to be administered in the comfort of our home, by wonderful nursing staff, and then the collection of the IV equipment on completion of my treatment.
Every supervising doctor throughout my treatment exhibited competence and concern either in person, tele-consultation or telephone calls.
To conclude, I have nothing but high praise for everyone involved in my case and take great comfort knowing that this medical facility is now operating to support our ever growing Island community.
