"Water Birth Option for Kalgoorlie Mums"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Maternity Ward

(as a service user),

I truly believe it’s time for Kalgoorlie Health Campus to offer a water birth option. We are one of the only hospitals in Western Australia that still doesn’t have this available, and I think it’s something that would make such a positive difference for so many women in our community.

I understand water birth is known to be an amazing, calming, and empowering way to give birth for both mums and babies. It’s heartbreaking for me that we don’t have this option here, especially when Kalgoorlie is the main hospital in our region.

I believe that many would love to experience a water birth without having to travel all the way to Perth or Esperance, spending extra money and time away from home. I think it is simply not fair that we don’t have the same choices as other families in WA.

I know there are many wonderful midwives here who I believe would also love to offer this experience and support local families in this way. Please, let’s bring water birth to Kalgoorlie. I think our beautiful community deserves this option.

Dear Halloween95

Thank you for your feedback. We completely agree that access to water birthing is an important option for women in Kalgoorlie. We explored this with local consumers as recently as 2024, and it remains a key consideration for our service. We are currently reviewing what options are available to hopefully be able to offer this as part of our commitment to improving maternity services to our local community. As part of our ongoing review of maternity services in Kalgoorlie, we would really value your input to help shape the future of maternity services. If you're interested in being involved, please reach out and contact Kalgoorlie Administration (adminpa@health.wa.gov.au). We really are keen to bring this amazing birthing option to our Kalgoorlie community.

Warm regards,
Hamish Burton
A/Director, Kalgoorlie Health Campus
