About: Perth Children's Hospital / Oncology and Haematology Department

(as a parent/guardian),

This is the second day of this admission where my child (under 10 years-old) only received half of what was requested for breakfast.

For a child on chemo, where high calorie intake is necessary, but where they can't confidently know what will taste right each day, I request food carefully.

For example, if my child won't eat this croissant, I now can't offer them a sandwich because the bread request was ignored.

Yesterday the full breakfast (their bacon) was seemingly ignored.

Both things are on the print out slip on my child's trays, just not ticked/not supplied.

How do I know which part of the meal they'll get??

Dear statusym44

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry to hear about the issues you have encountered with your child’s meals during their admission. We understand how important it is, especially for children undergoing chemotherapy, to receive the right nutrition.

Your concerns about missing breakfast items and inconsistent meal delivery are concerning. To help us look into this further and address it specifically, we invite you to contact our Child and Family Liaison Service by phone on 6456 0032 or by email at CAHSFeedback@health.wa.gov.au.

This will allow us to review the details of your child’s meal orders and ensure that appropriate steps are taken to prevent this from happening again.

Thank you for advocating on behalf of your child. We’re committed to providing the highest standard of care and support, and we welcome the opportunity to make things right.

Warm Regards

Stephen Morris
