Our GP suggested we take my spouse to the ED as they were in extreme pain.
After several hours waiting they were admitted. My spouse also has Dementia and we were told this was the best place for them as this had a Dementia ward.
Lack of basic knowledge when treating Dementia patient in my opinion.
Asked what meds my spouse was being given - no response from nurse.
Medication put on my spouse's tray in container and not encouraged to take it. or told why they were taking it.
lack of staff communication between Drs and Nursing staff- We were told they were having an x-ray that day and it had been booked for the afternoon.
3pm I asked the nursing staff what time is the x-ray should i prepare my spouse by putting on the gown for x-ray
10 mins later told by nurse that my spouse wasn't having x-ray as downstairs didn't know about it. A big sporting game final on that day.
By this time my spouse was sooo confused and upset needing lots of reassurance.
No meals were offered as they weren't in the system.
Mixed messages from two doctors. Ward doctor - my spouse will be here for a few days
2nd doctor came and spoke with us n few days. I told the 2nd Dr i was taking my spouse home! they suggested that was the best idea
discharged next morning - No discharge papers
No medication given on discharge
I phoned the hospital asking where the discharge papers where and was told they have been archived.
Our GP gave me the discharge papers this week.
It took over a week to convince my spouse that they would not be going to that hospital again.
"Lack of basic care"
