"Midwifery care"

About: Broome Health Campus / Maternity/Midwifery

(as a service user),

I was looked after by Yvonne as part of the Midwifery Group Practice at Broome Hospital. This was my third baby, and after having private midwives in QLD for my previous two births, I knew exactly what I needed. I came with high expectations about the care that I wanted, and the birth plan.

Yvonne met all my expectations. Caring and personable, she never pushed for anything I did not want. I said no to several practices that were considered “standard procedure” at the hospital but I understand are not standard across the nation, and therefore unnecessary. She did not push, and always respected my wishes.

She followed my birth plan. She was there without being there. Calm, leaving us on our bubble birth space. Did not push to any “interventions” or unnecessary observations. She and the other midwife at birth were both calm when Bub was still a little grey and had some mucous in her lungs. They did not push to take her away from me and only touched over an hour later when I asked them to.

Absolutely fantastic. Care was very very close to private midwifery in QLD and I believe should be standard.

Thank you Yvonne for the fantastic experience for my last rodeo.

One recommendation for the hospital: please provide a direct access to the midwife area. We have to go through ED and the general ward before getting there, we have to go through sick people with infectious sicknesses while pregnant, or with a newborn. In my opinion this is far from acceptable.

Dear airft39

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Midwifery Group Practice at Broome Hospital, and especially your kind words about Yvonne.

We’re truly delighted to hear that your third birth was such a positive and empowering experience. It’s wonderful to know that Yvonne’s care met your expectations and reflected the respectful, calm, and personalised support you were seeking. Your feedback highlights the importance of listening to birthing parents, honouring their choices, and creating a safe and nurturing environment—something we strive for in every birth.

We also appreciate your thoughtful recommendation regarding access to the midwifery area. Your concern is valid, and we will ensure it is passed on to the appropriate team for consideration. Improving access for expectant and new mothers is an important part of providing safe and dignified care.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story. We wish you and your family all the very best.

Warmest wishes,

Millie Stewart
