"No follow up - arm fractured and further diagnosis required"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Orthopaedics & Ward 4A

(as a parent/guardian),

Our child had a sporting injury and was taken to Fiona Stanley recently. They had an xray of which the doctor said that their elbow was fractured but they could not get a clear picture and there was no none else there to do alternative scans. The head doctor reviewed my child's scan and referred them to the orthopaedic surgeon as an urgent case.

The doctor said they were unsure if my child's arm needed a cast or surgery. My child was given a sling and told to take Panadol and Nurophen and discharged.. Due to the location of the break the doctor said we will be contacted within two days with a follow up appointment.. As we had not heard, we called the hospital three days later to follow up and was told that they hadn’t been triaged yet and hadn’t been looked at but to expect a call on the next day. The next day in the afternoon another call was made to the hospital because we had heard nothing and we spoke to clinic 4 who advised that my child's case had still not been looked at but they would print their information off and place it on the doctors desk. At the time of writing this it is the evening, 6 days since the injury and we have not heard from any body. This is extremely frustrating because we have no plan to assist our child and ensure their bone heals correctly. It is causing our child distress as they feel that they have been forgotten and we have no answers. Very disappointing and concerning.
