"Food after Day Ward Procedure"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I had a scope scheduled last month. I am a type 2 diabetic  who also  has medically  diagnosed  coeliac disease.  I was instructed  to fast from my evening  meal the night before. I heard the nurses call the kitchen  twice  once before  the procedure  and  again  after I  returned  to the ward for a gluten  free  sandwich  which  never  arrived. Thank goodness  my partner  came  to pick me up  so I could  go home  and  have  something  to  eat. Very  disappointed  as all other staff  were  awesome

Dear Bizzyt1,

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we’re sorry to hear about the delay in receiving a suitable meal following your procedure. While our staff aim to provide safe and supportive care, we acknowledge that there were gaps in the coordination of your post-procedure catering.

As a result, we have reviewed processes and identified where these gaps occurred and are conducting education within our teams to ensure staff utilise the systems available to them to communicate information such as dietary information across teams. Your feedback has helped highlight areas for improvement, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.

Warm regards,

Hamish Burton
A/Director, Kalgoorlie Health Campus
