"Breastfeeding in ED"

About: Sale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I was breasting feeding my 13 week old baby, in the emergency department. With my child who had just broken their collar bone. We were in the waiting room I was feeding my baby when the doctor came out to give me the paper work. They asked if I wanted to feed my baby in the bathroom. I said no, the doctor proceeded to cover their eyes while talking to me about my child's injury.

Dear Breastfeeding mum,

My name is Mandy Pusmucans and I am the Interim Chief Executive Officer at Central Gippsland Health. Thank you for sharing your concerns with us and I apologise that this was your experience. It does appear that we could have been more supportive in our approach.

It is important that we listen to feedback, learn from it and improve along the way. If you would like to provide more specific detail, I would welcome your contact, either on email to mandy.pusmucans@cghs.com.au or via phone on 5143 8319. In the meantime, I will link with the ED team on this matter.

I do hope that your child's health has improved. and again, thank you.

Kind regards

Mandy
