My experience with the Margaret River Midwifery Group Practice has been nothing short of amazing. I’ve had two babies in the last two years through the MGP, and both pregnancies and births felt calm, supported, and personal. From the very beginning, the midwives took the time to get to know me, my family, and what mattered most to us, and that made all the difference.
I chose the MGP for both births because I really wanted continuity of care and a model that centred women and their choices. I loved the idea of being cared for by the same small team of midwives throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Every appointment felt familiar and unrushed, and when it came time to give birth, I was surrounded by midwives who already knew my preferences and my goals.
One of the biggest reasons I loved the MGP was that it never felt overly medical or clinical. The care was safe and evidence-based, but still felt natural, gentle, and centred on me as a person, not just a patient. My needs and wants were always heard, respected, and included in the plan. I always felt like I had a voice and genuine choice in every step of the process.
The midwifery-led birthing space at Margaret River and the option of waterbirth had a huge impact on both of my experiences. The environment is calming, private, and beautifully set up to support physiological birth. Labouring and birthing in water felt incredibly empowering and helped me stay relaxed and in control. I truly believe it contributed to two very positive, low-intervention birth experiences.
The continuity of care was another major highlight. Knowing the midwives personally meant I always felt supported and understood. They remembered the little things, checked in emotionally as well as physically, and were always just a message away if I had questions or concerns. That level of connection gave me so much reassurance.
The postnatal home visits were absolutely amazing, particularly the second time around when I had a toddler at home. Not having to leave the house in those early days took so much pressure off. Having a familiar midwife walk through the door, check on me and the baby, support breastfeeding, and make sure we were all doing okay made the transition to life with two little ones so much smoother. It was truly invaluable.
Overall, my experiences with the Margaret River MGP have been incredibly positive. It’s a service that genuinely honours women’s choices, supports families, and provides care that feels both professional and deeply personal. I’m so grateful to have had access to such a wonderful team for both of my births.
