"Parking"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital

(as the patient),

I'm 36 + 4 weeks pregnant and registered to birth at Fiona Stanley. I'm on parental leave and on a limited budget. I've had vaginal bleeding and would like to get checked out by MFAU at the hospital I'm to birth at, but there is no free parking. I've got literally no money until next pay day. Thus, I cannot go get checked out by this hospital. I feel really let down. Turns out that there is no free parking arrangement for people labouring or birthing either. I don't know how we will afford for me to stay in hospital when our baby comes.

Dear orangecq87,

Thank you for sharing your concerns about parking costs for maternity patients at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH). I am truly sorry to hear about the financial stress you are experiencing and the distress this has caused, especially at such an important time in your pregnancy.

It is very concerning to read that you feel unable to access care due to these challenges. Please know that you and your baby’s care are our utmost priority. If you are experiencing symptoms such as vaginal bleeding, I strongly encourage you to seek care immediately through your GP, midwife, or by presenting to ED. If parking costs are a barrier, there are options we can explore to support you.

We acknowledge the difficulty our patients and their families have in relation to the costs of parking. Our process is that subsidised parking may be provided to patients on an as-needed basis, as long as the requirement has been substantiated and requested via the proper channels. To begin this process, I recommend that you please discuss this with your midwife, as they can provide advice and support specific to your situation and escalate as necessary.

I understand the financial and emotional toll this has taken, and I deeply regret the stress it has caused you.

Once again, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, it helps us understand where we need to do better. Please reach out so we can support you directly.

Kind regards,
Luke Dix
