"Birth: A healing experience"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

My first birth experience was a long and difficult journey: after a 15-hour labour, 2.5 hours of pushing, and attempted vacuum and forceps delivery, I experienced a fourth-degree tear. The recovery was long—6 to 12 months—and my postpartum period was filled with trauma, pain, and incontinence. It was an overwhelming and emotionally heavy experience that stayed with me for a long time.

In complete contrast 3 years later, the recent birth of my daughter was profoundly healing. A fast 3-hour labour with only 10 minutes of pushing and not even a graze showed me what my body is capable of when supported correctly and allowed to birth without unnecessary intervention. This experience transformed my confidence and brought me so much peace.

I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional care I received, especially from Olivia at the Family Birth Centre. Her support, presence, and approach played a major role in giving me the healing birth I needed. I truly cannot express how thankful I am for the compassionate, empowering care.
