"Return of mail sent to me"

About: Rockingham General Hospital / Medical Unit

(as the patient),

I have been a patient in Gen Medical for a few weeks. My parent sent an important parcel to me which was addressed properly including ward and bed number.

The parcel was returned saying "Patient no longer at this address".

I am upset and worried as I am only in a hospital gown with nothing and when I am discharged what am I to wear home or to rehab? Also, my other relative sent a package, so did the same happen?

I believe that sick Patients stuck in hospital should be able to receive mail without it being sent back! I am sad enough as it is without this happening!

Hi braceb48

I’m sorry to hear that your parcel was returned to your relatives and appreciate how distressing this must be, especially when you have limited access to personal items during your stay.

We sincerely apologise that your items did not reach you on the ward.

Rockingham General Hospital (RGH) has a policy to ensure mail is delivered in a safe and consistent manner, I can confirm that RGH does accept deliveries for patients, and we regret that this process did not work as intended in your case. The RGH main reception is unable to accept deliveries directly; however, procedures are in place for reception staff to redirect items to the Supply Department. Australia Post delivers daily to our Supply Department via a locked bag system. From there, our mail room sorter coordinates processing and distribution.

I would encourage you to contact our Consumer Feedback service on 9599 4632 to provide details of your delivery to allow us to fully investigate what has occurred. We appreciate you bringing this issue to the attention of our service and accept it as an opportunity to review our practices and identify any potential improvements

I sincerely hope your inpatient experience has otherwise been satisfactory, and I wish you a smooth and speedy recovery.

Kind regards

Dr Asheila Narang
