"Lack of care"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / ASB 6S - General Surgical Ward

(as a relative),

My family member was in the short stay unit.  Two hours into their arrival to the bed not one nurse came to see them nor introduce themselves not check on them. One of our family approached the group of talking nurses, (who were talking socially behind the computer screens and seemed bothered by the interruption) to advise them the patient needed to toilet. Again apparently bothered by the request no nurse attended.

What on earth has seemingly happened to this hospital. I felt there was no patient care and no leadership on the ward. I’m appalled that we feel we cannot leave our family unsupervised with the confidence that they are being cared for. It’s probably timely to also add, the waiting room was spilling out to the front door. I think you need to get your act together.

Dear Ace99,

Sorry to hear about your experience in our Short Stay Unit. This is not the standard of care we aim to provide.

It sounds as if the patient was in the Emergency Department, however it is a little unclear. If you could please confirm the location to our Consumer Feedback team at seslhd-powhconsumerfeedback@health.nsw.gov.au? They will be better able to review your concerns and follow them up.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Kind regards

Martin
