"Brilliant Nursing"

About: St George Hospital / Operating Theatres (OT) St George Hospital / Pain Service

(as the patient),

In the past 7 weeks I have been courageously navigating hospital visits due to unexplained upper abdominal pain and I took a major step forward with my gallbladder removal a couple of months ago.

With so many visits I have been in 4 wards 1 West, 2 South and 3 South, and I am truly grateful for the incredible care I received from brilliant nurses who showed remarkable compassion for my struggles with severe abdominal pain.

With my most recent admission I was blessed to be progressing admitted to 1 West and two days later I was graciously moved into 1 South the Maternity ward. This has been an incredible blessing.

The care I have received from the nurses, particularly the ladies in this ward, has been a truly uplifting experience. My nurses, Bianca, Emma, Georgie,  Lana and Naomi, have surpassed my expectations in every way.

I have triumphantly overcome a complication with a cannula causing a blood clot. The nurses ensured seamless documentation of the swelling's progress and kept my treating doctors informed of the changes, truly embodying exceptional patient care.

A few days later I felt like my doctors were not hearing my concerns regarding my pain, but I took proactive steps and sought out my nurse Naomi, and fortunately Bianca saw me and made sure she heard my concerns, advised that she would inform Naomi, and initiated the escalation process, demonstrating remarkable dedication to addressing my needs.

After stepping outside to get some air the girls empowered me with knowledge of the next steps and who would be in contact to support me with my concerns and also to champion my cause ensuring my concerns and my wellbeing were prioritised.

They have empowered me by checking in and ensuring my voice is heard. I would also like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Georgia, the Num of the ward, who approached me, addressed my concerns and kindly reminded me that her door is always open.
