Walk into ED

About: Geraldton Hospital

(as a service user),

I attended ED recently and have no complaints about the care received.

However, I can see a large issue with the current distance to walk from the entrance to ED. There were no wheelchairs at the entrance for people too unwell to walk. 

Previously I have attended ED for a snake bite, and would have been far too great of a distance to walk in that state. 

Similarly, I worry about patients who are having heart attacks who could collapse in the hallway. 

I think this may need to be addressed before an adverse event occurs

I am pleased to hear that you were satisfied with the care you received during your recent visit to the Geraldton Health Campus Emergency Department (GHCED). Like you, I share concerns about anything that may hinder safe and timely access to urgent care for patients in need.

I acknowledge that the temporary entrance requires a slightly longer walk than before, and at times our wheelchair availability has not met demand. Please be assured that we had already identified this as an area for improvement, and additional wheelchairs are currently on order.

Thanks to your feedback, we are also preparing a poster with information for consumers who require mobility assistance, including a contact number to request a wheelchair if needed.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Your input helps us enhance the experience for all patients.
