We were on holiday in Inverloch and my son sustained a laceration to the back of his head.
We took him to the Emergency Department at the Bass Coast Hospital in Wonthaggi.
The care we received from the moment we walked in the door was exceptional. The beautiful triage nurse (sorry I can’t remember her name) was warm, kind and so patient. She made my son feel safe. She gave him toys to distract him and allowed him to take the toys back out to waiting room.
Dr Anand was so gentle and explained everything to my husband and myself every step of the way. Dr Anand was prepared for every situation from being able to close the wound using local anaesthetic to having sedate our son to close the wound if necessary.
He was great with our son and showed him what he was doing first before he did it. The stickers were a real treat too.
Nurse Peta was so beautiful with our son in the procedure room. She spoke to our son the whole time and allowed him to be in a position where he felt self and comfortable. She joked with him and also explained what Dr Anand was doing. She reassured him but telling him how brave he was.
The procedure room was so well set out for families and children. There was so much space for my husband and I to be close to our son and the toys and colouring were a wonderful distraction.
We were provided with clear and concise education on how to care for the wound and when the staples needed to be removed and a discharge letter so we can follow up with our GP.
We are so grateful for the care we received and wanted to thank the whole team for their amazing and hard work.
