About: Royal Perth Hospital / Haematology (Anaemia and Blood Cancer) Care

(as the patient),

To whom it may concern,

Have just spent the better part of two months at RPH.

Please let me take this opportunity to commend Doctors Tom, Jacques, Julia and Nick - they are assets to RPH, deserve raises, and I cannot praise them more.

Tom - Came to my room first many a time at 7am to update my results progress, excitedly when there was progress. Made the time to explain everything in layman’s terms. From what I gather, may have done a lot of pushing initially for any of my scans/procedures/treatments required to expedite my case.

Jacques - Could not have been more supportive from my admission. Shed too many tears in front of him, and I am not a crier - I blame the steroids, but really it was his empathy and ability to allow space to have a reaction to news.

Nick and Julia - Was the best daily support I could have asked for. Nick treated me like a human, a peer in society. Both endured my low energy early on to my somewhat emotional state during steroid treatment, to then have to endure the change back to my normal assertive and dominant work self. During all of this, neither Nick or Julia’s demeanour never changed.

Special thanks to Marie also - very matter of fact, but I appreciate that candour and frankness - you know what you get in black and white, it is what it is without any doubt. Sometimes you need that.

Nursing team - all very hard working, friendly, great bedside manner. They all realised quickly that I’m independent and respected this. Special thanks to: sh, Megan, Jun, Janki, Hazel, Anaelle, Leah (great PICC dressing change practice on me - 10/10), Justine, Joy, Sandy, and everyone else who I’ve forgotten to name. Also Karen at reception was great - always had a friendly hello and time to give.

However, I do have to point out the inefficiency of your communication systems, use of mail and paper, text messages coming to me as an outpatient when I‘ve been readmitted - feel like there are opportunities for saving of tax dollars, but I digress…

Wholeheartedly appreciate the care provided by all the aforementioned team and RPH at large - cannot thank your team enough. Happy to discuss further if need be.

Many thanks
