My spouse had their regular 6 monthly MRI to monitor their brain tumour in October. Their appointment to meet with their neuro team wasn't until 6 weeks later. 6 weeks is a long time to wait for results, particularly when my spouse had a reoccurrence two years ago. My spouse was able to log in to My Health Record and view a copy of their report from their latest scan. The scan showed that there had been a change in size in their tumour, and that they had also had a recent bleed. My spouse and I had many questions to ask at their appointment with the neuro teamr.
48hrs prior to the appointment, we received a text message advising the appointment had been cancelled. We managed to speak to someone in the Department and they advised there was no availability/no doctors, in December, so their appointment had been rescheduled for another 6 weeks from now, even though it had already been 6 weeks..
3 months is too long to wait for answers. We had a referral sent off to a private clinic, knowing they weren't my spouse's treating team, but hoping they might be able to provide some answers to our queries. They returned the referral advising they wouldn't be able to assist with their case.
Almost 7 weeks after their MRI, we know their tumour has grown and that they've had a brain bleed and yet it will be 3 months after their MRI that we will get to speak to a doctor and ask questions.
The anxiety and stress of waiting for answers for 6 weeks was difficult, to now be told it will be 3 months and over the holiday period.
By January it will only be another 3 months before my spouse's next MRI, assuming with these recent changes their treating team still wants to keep them at 6 monthly MRI's and not more frequent.
We would like the opportunity to receive some answers to our queries prior to January.
