"Labour and Delivery - MGP"

About: Karratha Health Campus / Maternity Unit

(as the patient),

I was part of the epic MGP program for the birth of my second child at KHC. I was assigned Sheree who journeyed with us from the early stages. She was able to help coordinate my unusual pelvic health with the allied health team successfully. Unfortunately bubs decided to hang on for a while so Sheree’s buddy Lea stepped up and filled the space. Although Lea was not our primary my husband and I felt incredibly fortunate. Lea was able to support my medical needs without hesitation while also providing a labouring women’s every request. The outcome of the birth of my second child was so smooth and beautiful avoiding all the worst case scenarios we prepped for. I truely believe that this was because of Leas coaching and technique.

The improvements I would suggest are to do with the postnatal resources.

- have available a poop stool in the ensuite to protect our pelvic floors after a vulnerable experience

- lactation consultant available pre and post to teach about breast crawls and troubleshoot before being dc or even a home visit

- women’s health pelvic physio check at 6 weeks. Although the service is available I feel that an appointment should be made automatically and have the mums cancel if it’s not required. I believe that understanding what’s happening in the downstairs after birth is essential to maternal outcome for the next years.
