"MAPs, 1 South Midwifery & OBGYN Team at St George Hospital Kogarah"

About: St George Hospital / 1 South Maternity St George Hospital / Birthing Centre / Delivery Suite

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth at St George and was primarily cared for by the Yellow MAPs team, with midwives Rebecca and Maree supporting me through both my antenatal and postnatal journey.

My pregnancy was difficult, and there were moments when I felt overwhelmed and unsure. Maree’s unwavering positivity, her warm and uplifting presence, and her ability to make both my partner and me feel truly seen, supported, and empowered became the beacon we held onto. Every time a new challenge arose, she made sure I felt informed, safe, and in control. That sense of reassurance meant everything during a period that often felt frightening and helpless.

My delivery was also a deeply positive experience, thanks to the incredible midwives in the delivery suite and 1 South Maternity Ward. Midwife Selena walked us through the induction process with such care and calmly guided us through the unexpected bumps during it. Midwives Grace and Lauren brought humour, confidence, and humanity into the delivery room. Midwife Mel, with her gentle, grounding presence in the late-night witching hours, made the hardest early moments feel a little lighter. And Midwife Grace’s cheerful energy (despite back-to-back shifts) brought a smile to both my partner and I during our extended time on the ward.

The OBGYN team I had was also remarkable. Dr Priya spoke with clarity and compassion when complications appeared, helping me understand my options without fear. And Dr Chloe helped me achieve the delivery I hoped for, holding the room with such confidence and care that I felt safe every step of the way.

After birth, Maree and Rebecca continued to look after my baby and I. Their advocacy and attentiveness helped catch a developing postpartum complication early. It was their patience and reassurance about what “normal” should feel like that helped me get the medical care I needed in time. I will never forget their kindness, their experience, and the comfort they brought during some of the most vulnerable days of my life. We're so grateful to have gone through the entire pregnancy and delivery at St George and feel extremely lucky to have experienced such great care and support throughout. The continuity of care has been a critical component for the success we've had transitioning into parenthood.  Thank you once again!
