"Inappropriate and outdated comments"

About: Western Wheatbelt Primary Health Service

(as a parent/guardian),

During a kindy orientation session at a Primary School in Western Wheatbelt, I felt the child health nurse presenting made several inappropriate, outdated and often inaccurate comments to a group of parents. I felt annoyed at the comments as a parent and as a teacher I felt embarrassed that they were representing the government health services and school in such an inaccurate manner.

Dear gammacq55,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns regarding the recent kindy orientation session, we appreciate taking the time to provide the feedback.

I understand how important it is that information provided to families is accurate and current and I’m sorry that some of the comments made during the presentation were inappropriate and outdated. This is not the experience we want for any parents nor staff, and your feedback is valuable in helping us maintain high standards.

I have discussed your feedback with Erik Anda, Primary Health Manager for your area. His team will review the content delivered during these sessions and follow up with the relevant nursing team to ensure that information aligns with current best practice and reflects the professionalism expected from our health and education services.

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me directly via email Regina.michel-huessy@health.wa.gov.au.

Your input will help us improve the experience for all families. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.

Kind regards,

Regina Michel-Huessy,
Director Population health
