My parent recently presented with DVT, with clots "riddled through [their] leg" (clinician quote). When I sought clarification from my parent on what was actually said, they couldn't offer further information to me.
They were discharged with no information for managing DVT post-discharge, symptoms to watch out for, compression socks, etc. they were merely handed some blood thinners and sent on their way.
As someone who works within a safety and quality unit at a nearby hospital, I'm dumbfounded at the quality of care offered and I am actively trying to convince my parent to transfer their care to another facility.
This experience has stressed the importance of patients having support people present to ease the mental burden of illness, treatment, knowing the right questions to ask and spotting missing information. This can be a lot to handle for even the brightest of minds.
"Poor communication"
