I want to thank the entire Shanty Creek team for making my stay such a positive and life-changing experience. You made me feel safe, supported, and never judged. A special thank you to Tanya—your caring approach and encouragement helped me take steps I never thought I would, and it has made a huge difference in my life. Thank you also to Nurse Rachel and the Doctor for your support and for connecting me with ACT Psychology. I am leaving here with hope, tools, and a plan for a better future because of all of you
I have spent three months at Shanty Creek and I am finishing. I am extremely happy with my experience here. The staff made me feel safe and never judged; they were always available to meet my needs.
The support workers have been a great support especially, Brett who is an inspiration to us that moving forward is possible. Brett has been supportive especially when I was at my darkest.
My Treatment Facilitator, Tanya, was easy to approach, friendly, and genuinely wanted the best for us. When I first arrived, I didn’t believe I needed to see anyone about my trauma. Tanya, in her caring way, encouraged me to reconsider, and she was right. Thanks to her support, along with Nurse Rachel and the Doctor, I was referred to ACT Psychology to see Les, who was amazing.
Suggestions for Improvement:
I believe Shanty Creek could look at developing programs to assist residents in obtaining certificates and training that support employment opportunities. For example:
•Certificates in cooking, cleaning, carpentry, horticulture, and similar skills.
•Encouraging staff to obtain a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to ensure programs are delivered consistently and effectively.
I believe these initiatives would help residents secure employment, maintain recovery, and break the cycle of substance use by building a brighter future.
