I had complicated diverticulitis with a perforation in the bowel. The nursing staff, ambos and RFDS crew, were very accommodating and went out of their way, to make sure I was comfortable. I felt well looked after.
I had to be transferred to Perth by RFDS which also went smoothly. The one complaint I do have, is the uneven, rough surface and exposed area between the hospital and the ambulance. This part caused me more pain as I was shaken around on the stretcher, than the rest of the trip, even including being loaded into the plane and transfer between Jandakot and Perth.
The memory of this experience is still bringing me concern for anyone else who has to be wheeled over that rough ground, exposed to the open air and elements. There is no privacy and I can’t imagine someone with a sensitive situation being OK with this.
