"One nurse who made all the difference"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Acute Surgical Unit and Trauma Department

(as the patient),

I recently had an admission and want to share how deeply grateful I am for the nursing staff who cared for me. During a very frightening and vulnerable time, every nurse I encountered showed kindness, patience, and genuine compassion. Their care made an overwhelming experience feel safer.

A very special mention to Dominique in ESSU. She was an absolute angel. From the very first interaction, she brought warmth, calm, and reassurance. She took her time with me, explained things gently, and helped me without ever making me feel rushed or like I was a burden. She made sure I felt supported, understood, and never forgotten.

What truly stood out was the way she cared for everyone around her. I could hear the respect and kindness in how she spoke to each patient, even when the unit was busy. She paid attention to the little things, checked in often, and made people feel seen, safe, and genuinely cared for. She also wasn’t afraid to advocate for patients, which meant so much in moments where it really mattered.

Dominique turned a very scary experience into one where I felt held and supported. She made a lasting impact on me, and I will always remember her warmth, compassion, and care. She is truly the kind of nurse you hope for when you are at your most vulnerable.
