"Pre-admission care in the hospital"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Day Surgery

(as a relative),

My spouse was admitted to Geraldton Regional Hospital on recently for a colonoscopy and endoscopy the following day.

They were on a white diet. For their tea they were served up pork and vegetables, their plate was labelled white diet and the correct bed number.

Fortunately my spouse realized it was incorrect and alerted the Nursing staff. A new meal ( white) was eventually provided.

The RN attending to my spouse tried to do a Blood sugar reading ( pricking their finger). My spouse asked what the nurse was doing and they replied- checking your sugar level as you are diabetic.

My spouse very quickly and sternly informed the nurse they are not diabetic. I understand the nurse then checked my spouse's notes and realized they were wrong.

At hand-over later the nurse stated again that my spouse is diabetic. My spouse said I have already informed you that I am not, to which the nurse replied I am sorry I forgot.

They also forgot to apply a red tag to my spouse's arm to indicate a  medication allergy.

The other concern, was that the Day Surgery receptionist had made every effort to make sure that all the information required was given to the relevant people - however when my spouse was taken into the ward the RN's in charge seemed to be very slow checking what  procedure was to come for my spouse. There seemed to be an obvious lack of interest and attention to their admission.
