"Hospital Emergency effectiveness"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I attended fiona Stanley hospital for chest pain,  suspected heart ❤️ problem at night.  At the time of writing this I am still in the emergency and it is morning now and still waiting for the doctor. No doctor has met me yet after 5 hours... sorry to say but very poor services in my opinion.

Dear violettm36

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am sorry to hear about the distress and discomfort you experienced while waiting in the Emergency Department, particularly while experiencing chest pain. We recognise that chest pain can be frightening, and waiting for assessment or treatment in those circumstances can feel overwhelming and concerning.

All WA Emergency Departments, including Fiona Stanley Hospital, assess patients using a clinical triage process that prioritises care based on urgency and risk, rather than order of arrival. While this process is designed to ensure the most critically unwell patients receive immediate attention, we understand that this does not lessen the anxiety or discomfort experienced by those who are waiting, especially when symptoms are painful or alarming.

Feedback such as yours is important and I have shared with our Emergency Department leadership to support ongoing review of patient flow, communication, and comfort measures while patients are waiting to be seen.

Thank you again for raising your concerns. We are committed to learning from all feedback to help improve the experience of patients and their families, particularly during what can be an extremely stressful time.

Kind regards

Luke Dix
