About: Armadale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I broke my toe and add an x-ray that showed that it was a full break with some slight rotation. I presented back to the Emergency Department waiting room and was taken through to the treatment area by a nurse whose name I won't give. 

They basically told me I was a time waster and that when they broke their toe they were back at work the next day and that I shouldn't ask for any treatment. I asked politely if the nurse would at least strap it, which they argued with me about and then reluctantly put a bit of tape on.

There was no sympathy, no care was offered and no after care treatment was suggested. Consequently the toe did not heal properly and is painful every day even over a year later.

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m very sorry to hear how you felt you were treated during your visit to our Emergency Department, and that you were left feeling unsupported. This is not the standard of care or compassion we expect, and I apologise that this happened.

If you haven’t already done so, I would encourage you to speak with your GP, who is best placed to reassess your toe and arrange any further investigations or referrals that may help.
