"I was admitted to ward after suddenly losing vision in my eye"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Acute Medical Unit, Wards 5A &5B, AMAC (Acute Medical Ambulatory Centre)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to ward five at Fiona Stanley Hospital after suddenly losing vision in my right eye.

I felt terrified the whole time I was there

I was moved to three different rooms in four days. For three days straight I was taken by ambulance to Fremantle eye clinic and back again and on the third day I came back after surgery for a biopsy and my room had been given to someone else so I was just parked in the passageway.

Nobody seemed to know what was going on.

Dear composeryb83,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns regarding the recent care you received at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH). I am truly sorry to hear about the distressing circumstances you described and the impact this experience has had on you.

It was very concerning to learn that you felt we were unable to provide the care you needed at such a vulnerable time. Patients are sometimes transferred between rooms due to capacity requirements, such as accommodating new admissions or responding to changing clinical needs. As ophthalmology services are primarily delivered at Fremantle Hospital, this was the reason for the transfers in your case. However, it is important to note that patient safety is always our highest priority, and you should have been clearly informed at every stage of your care. We understand how unsettling this must have been for you, particularly following surgery.

As this is an anonymous platform, it is difficult for us to investigate the circumstances in detail or provide a comprehensive response. I encourage you to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service (PFLS) on (08) 6152 4013 during business hours, or via email at FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au. This will allow us to look into your concerns more thoroughly and provide a more tailored response.

Please know that at the FSFHG we remain committed to delivering the highest standard of care to all our patients. I am genuinely sorry that this was not reflected in your experience.

Thank you again for reaching out and sharing your concerns. I hope we have the opportunity to speak with you directly.

Kind regards

Luke Dix
