"I was involved in a cycling accident"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Riding Easterly in Riverton heading for Raffles Canning Bridge at 5:45 am 31st December 2025.

The first thing that I remember was been  loaded into an ambulance and been transported to Royal Perth Hospital Emergency. The 3 ladies of the Ambulance Service were so kind who kept we informed what they were doing & why. They stayed with me in the emergency dept until I was seen by a doctor

Quickly taken for XRays & scans. Result broken left eye socket, broken ribs, 6 stitches in my face & nose by a wonderful lady doctor from New Zealand. Stayed in the Emergency Department until a bed was found in the Trauma Ward. What lovely people looked after me including Polly & the most energetic nurse I have ever met treated me like a prize procession , especially providing me with a delicious warm blanket and ear plugs. Very attentive through the night.

Day shift Emma what a delight nothing was too much trouble, got me showered, washed all the stale blood away & tooth brush & paste & wipes. Almost Human again except for the very badly bruised face. Lovely people kept coming to see me including 2 very informative Police Officers and the Physiotherapist Department.

Pass all the tests You may go Home. Thank you one and all for your wonderful understanding and very professional help, doctors, nurses, catering, cleaners etc. GREAT JOB, I think you are all beautiful ,dedicated people and a huge credit to your profession Caring for other people.  Wishing everyone of you a safe and peaceful 2026 & beyond.

Dear Januaryhw87,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department and State Trauma Unit Ward. I was sorry to read about your cycling accident, however pleased to hear that you felt well supported, informed, and cared for throughout your stay.

Your kind acknowledgement of the doctors, nurses, cleaners, and catering staff is greatly appreciated and will be shared with the teams involved. It was particularly heartening to hear Polly and Emma had such a positive impact on your stay. Our staff strive to deliver compassionate, high-quality care, and I am pleased to hear this was evident throughout your admission.

I wish you a continued recovery and thank you again for your thoughtful comments.

Kind Regards
