"Neurosurgery lack of communication"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Neurosurgical Unit

(as a relative),

My spouse has been in SCGH since late December. ER and HDU teams were fantastic. Since moving onto ward 52 the neuro doctors have been extremely difficult to obtain updates from with one being rude and stating it was my responsibility to be at the hospital between 7-8am to get an update on my spouse when doctors are doing rounds as they are too busy to provide an update at other times of the day. The doctor suggested they did not have to contact me for anything unless it was life threatening. Very distressing and disappointed with their demeanor and lack of empathy.

Dear sigmasr86,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story following your spouse’s recent admission to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. I am delighted to read how fantastic the teams were in ER and HDU.

I acknowledge how difficult it is when a loved one is in hospital and the importance of keeping families updated on progress. I am sorry to read this was not your experience following your spouse's transfer to ward G52, and I appreciate this only added to your distress.

I will ensure your story is shared with the medical staff on the ward to emphasise the importance of keeping families updated.

I hope your spouse is feeling a little better and is on the road to recovery.

Thank you again for getting in touch.

Kind regards

Dr Jodi Graham

Executive Director SCGOPHCG
