"My Experience within a Victorian Public Hospital"

About: Dandenong Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Hello I am in my 20s with a Complex Medical History. I have had multiple bad experiences with the Victorian health System dismissing me, Mistreating and just horrible treatment that should not be happening at all.

I have sadly been taken to multiple hospitals due to my Complex Health and with moving Areas for Disability Supported Accommodation after spending 1 1/2 years in hospital due to My Functional Neurological Disorder which has left me Wheelchair Bound and the loss of Function of my Lower half of my Body. Which with this comes with many Complications due to requiring Medical Devices to help with Urinary retention which comes with regular Infections, Blockages and Bleeding.

My FND also has symptoms of Seizures which is one of my biggest things that gets dismissed in hospital system and has caused so much issues with my Mental Health as in my experience, the Medical System just doesn't under the Meaning of Functional Non-epilepic Seizures. These Seizures can be seizures that are so commonly like Tonic Clonic Seizure but its not Epileptic and its caused by our Brain wiring system Crashing which then sends miss messages throughout our body which causes so many of our symptoms. But in the hospital system I have been treated like I'm faking it, or doing it for attention. But the staff I've seen don't understand the true meaning of FND and what it means for us who have FND what it doing to our systems.

The hospital I have had the most trouble at is Called Dandenong Hospital in Victoria. I feel this Hospital has caused so much Medical Trauma to me what I am now got my GP to write a letter stating I am to not be taken to this hospital. This is for my Mental health and for my Physical Safety as well.

When I have gone to this hospital I feel I have been treated so poorly with multiple Nurses and the medical Doctors dismissing me and there even been times where they have told Paramedics to turn around and take me home before we have even checked me in, while I was still seizing and they have written on my discharging summary what I believe are lies that I said that I was happy to go home and that they spoke to my Accomodation that they were happy to take me back. When my accommodation didn't receive a phone call the first time and the same day when they called another ambulance and I was taken back I was still seizing and they called my home and they told my staff that I was happy to come home and my Accommodation staff asked them so I am still seizing, I am verbal. The doctor told them Yes I am not seizing and I am verbal. I'm talking.

But the doctor refused to give the phone to me when they asked so can they can speak to me then. They were concerned for my safety which I am so blessed for my home they really care for me.

When I got home they were absolutely shocked that I was in a state that I shouldn't have been home in.

They read the discharge summary and was absolutely shocked at what they were reading.

This is just example of one thing that has happened with this hospital that has been very unsafe for me.
