"Consent"

About: Esperance Population Health

(as a parent/guardian),

Went in for 12 month check up, during check up it was communicated to strip child down to nappy to weigh and do a once over. I was not asked consent for nurse to take child nappy off and check testicles. I understand it is apart of the normal heath check but as a first time mum I didn't know what to expect completely and would of liked to be asked or have had it explained better prior.

Dear carinats66,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your concerns regarding consent during a recent Child Health check with our team.

Our Clinical Nurse Specialist has reviewed and confirmed that consent is a very important part of our processes, and standard practice is for the parent/guardian to assist with removing the child’s clothing during the check.

We apologise if this did not occur during your recent appointment and we will ensure that all members of the team are reminded of the importance of consent and adhering to our standard procedures.

Once again, we appreciate you raising this concern and we look forward to welcoming you and your child back for future checks as needed with our Child Health team.

Kind Regards,

Deryck Lykke
