I had heard great things about the MGP program through KHC so I was very disappointed when I originally was unable to join due to the case load for the midwives being full for our birth month. At around 30 weeks into my pregnancy I was contacted by one of the midwives, Laura, to be able to join. I am so glad that we did, this program was an exceptional experience and I truly believe the level of care we received from the MGP midwives shaped our pregnancy, labour and postnatal experience.
After doing my own research and listening to some experiences of other women birthing in the health care system, I was very nervous about the potential for interventions and having to advocate for my birth preferences. My worries were completely erased as the team talked through all of my birthing scenario questions with respect and reassurance.
I am very grateful to the MGP team for their support, particularly as we went over our EDD (12 days). There was no pressure to be booked in immediately for an induction; the team gave us all the options and supported our decision to wait for our bub to be ready.
I would love to see this care be available to all expecting parents and based on my experience I 110% would recommend requesting the MGP at KHC or enquiring about continuity of care programs in your area if you are an expecting parent!
Thank you to the KHC MGP team
