"Waiting at the Eye Clinic"

About: Kogarah Eye Clinic

(as the patient),

My experience was quite frustrating, I had an appointment to see one of the doctors here. I had an appointment to check in at 9:25am and I’ve have been waiting for now over 6 hours to see a doctor. The nurses here have tried their best to get as much information as they can, but I just don’t think it’s good enough. There are a lot of patients that have come in for the afternoon session, and they’ve been seen and gone home. I’ve seen the elderly having to wait a long time here.

I’m the last patient to be here from the morning and I’m quite frustrated to still be waiting. I’ve already made a complaint through the official channels and I’ve made a complaint to the complaints officer here. I also wanted to share the story with you, I suppose as a back-up.

Dear uniformsx38,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re very sorry to hear about the length of time you waited to be seen and the frustration this caused. Waiting for medical care, is understandably upsetting, and we recognise the impact this has on patients and their families.

While our clinical teams do their best to manage high demand and unexpected delays, this does not diminish how difficult your experience was. We appreciate your acknowledgment of our nursing staff’s efforts, and we regret that the overall experience did not meet the standard of care and communication you should expect from us.

Your concerns have been noted, and we take feedback like this seriously. The information you’ve shared will be reviewed as part of our ongoing efforts to improve patient flow, communication, and wait-time management.

Thank you for raising this through our official channels as well. If you would like to discuss your experience further, please don’t hesitate to contact our Patient Consumer Feedback so we can follow up directly on SESLHD-SSEHConsumerFeedback@health.nsw.gov.au.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Regards,

Dr Pauline Rumma
Director of Clinical Services

Director of Nursing and Support Services
