"My birth at the Family Birth Centre"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I have just birthed my second baby through the family birth centre and it was such a wonderful experience. To be able to have continuity of care throughout my pregnancy and through my labour and birth made all the difference when it came time to actually giving birth! I had a midwife who knew me and could work with me during labour in a way that someone who hadn’t gotten to know me couldn’t have. And because I had spent my whole pregnancy building a relationship with my midwife, when it came to giving birth, I trusted her.

I loved every aspect of antenatal and postnatal care given, especially the experience I had straight after giving birth. With my first baby I was transferred from the birth centre to the delivery ward at king Edward’s and I didn’t enjoy the first moments after birth.

Fast forward to this birth and I had the most peaceful and relaxed first moments with my newborn, hours that I will never forget. The room and quiet, there was no beeping or people in the room. Just my husband and myself and our new baby and midwives who assisted where required and needed which was wonderful.

I am beyond thankful for the birth centre for assisting me give birth to our baby and wouldn’t change a thing about it!

Dear casingcf79,

Thank you for your kind words of appreciation to our Family Birth Centre (FBC) team and congratulations on the birth of your baby.

It is heart-warming to hear how well supported you felt throughout your pregnancy and birth and that you were able to build such trust with your midwife. I’m so glad to hear that despite your previous experience, this time with no distractions you were able to cherish those first few hours.

We strive at the Women and Newborn Health Service to provide the most excellent care possible and it very reassuring to know your experience reflects our efforts. I will be sure to pass on your beautiful feedback to the FBC team.

Kind regards,

Melinda
