"My Treatment at Chemotherapy Unit at Swan Hill Hospital"

About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Chemotherapy Service

(as the patient),

I am currently undergoing Immunotherapy for Folicle Lymphoma.

I was supposed to have 4 Treatments - One at Bendigo Hospital and 3 at Swan Hill District Health.

As it turned out, I had a reaction at the first Treatment which resulted in having to go back to Bendigo for my second Treatment.

I had my first Appointment at the Chemotherapy Unit at Swan Hill District Health recently.

I was absolutely amazed at the Very High Level of Service afforded to me by the two Nurses on duty in that area on that day. I didn't get their names but I am sure Swan Hill District Health will know who they both are.

Such a Credit to Swan Hill District Health - They were both so Empathetic, Friendly, Excellent at relaxing their Patients and making them feel comfortable, Extremely Professional and basically worked non-stop the whole time that I was there (Which was for 5.5 hours).

I asked them about when they have a break for lunch - as I didn't see either of them go for a break - but they seemed far more focused on their Patients and making sure that we had lunch and plenty of fluids along the way.

My hope would be that someone from Management at Swan Hill District Health, takes the time to find out who these two valuable Nurses were and to "Thank" them both personally for providing all their patients (There was a steady stream of people coming in for treatment that day) such a High Level of Patient Support.

They certainly both deserve to be Congratulated!!!

Dear Blacky,

Thank you very much for your welcomed response.

This has boosted our moral knowing you had such a great experience within in our department.

Our department is dedicated to delivering safe and high-quality healthcare and treatment, we are extremely grateful that you took your time to provide us with feedback that reflects these values.

We are a very small unit with highly specialised nurses who dedicate their time to our small community and giving the best care experience.

Both nurses have been informed of this lovely feedback, so thank you once again from all of the team at Swan Hill Oncology.

Kind regards,

Sharon Collyer

Thank you Blacky,

I am so pleased that you found the care in the chemotherapy unit such a high level, particularly given that you had other services to compare to. This is high praise indeed. I have thanked the staff who provided this care and acknowledged your comments about their approach.

I note that you mention about their work with minimal breaks, and I am looking at this and how we ensure a seamless provision of care to the patients with staff having meal breaks, especially in busy clinical areas with booked scheduled appointments that can run over time. Our staff do need to have their meal breaks, and having protected meal breaks is a standard that we work towards. I will do some further work on this, and how we can support the staff having meal breaks.

Kind Regards

Chloe

Update posted by Blacky (the patient)

Thank You Chloe.

I'm sure that you will be able to achieve this as your Staff really do deserve to have their lunch breaks after working in such a busy environment.

Appreciate your help here.
