About: Albany Health Campus / Day Procedure Unit

(as the patient),

I was in Albany hospital for day surgery. The care from all staff involved was excellent with one wrinkle. On recovery and after review by the doctor and clearance to go home, this wasn’t communicated to the nursing staff. They came around to do obs and told me they were awaiting the doctors review before I could go…. which had happened about 20 minutes earlier. This is my second visit where this step of communication between surgical and nursing staff seemed to fall through the cracks. It was in contrast to detailed patient handovers I heard nursing staff performing at shift change. This little detail makes the experience feel a bit disjointed and maybe not a great use of resources with a bed occupied that could be used for another patient. Other than that, all staff were friendly and professional.
